sonnet on bad rhyming

there is good reason to use rhyme
even if you're as poor at it as I'm
rhyme forces you to focus
and leave for others hocus-pocus
no, forgive me, I'm being silly and stupid
some people can use rhyme and stay lucid
and give their work strength in making a point
my mind gets sidetracked and disjoint
finds tangents in lines askew
for years I just said no thank you
and stayed away from work of this kind
these jumps in sense, these alleys blind
these lines that prob'ly should get me fined
and count on humor to get me off the tines
