Wyatt as Poet

[me at podium]

This is an awesome title to claim, for some of us. Some people toss it around like they might a penny. But for some of us, claiming to be a poet moves one a little out of the world of us mortals. At least it puts you in a subset of people whom we revere, so we're a little bit leery of claiming it for ourselves. We'd rather someone else called us one first, someone we respect. Well, I have been, by several poets whom I respect. Good enough?

So what does it mean that I'm a poet? It means I write poems and publish them. Mainly I publish them on Facebook right now, but some of my poems have been published in little magazines. I might as well promise you that I will now (2024/05/31 06:15) begin a project to get myself published in one or more of the magazines that focus on current poetry. Rattle would be an example of such a magazine, as would be Poetry, but that's aiming pretty high. I will find some lower-hanging fruit so to speak.

But meanwhile, if you want to see some of my poems, look me up on Facebook and skim down through my feed. (I think Facebook calls it a feed.)

My poems don't usually rhyme and they sometimes do. If you need poems to rhyme, I'm probably not your poet.

I learned poetry and poem writing from my mentor, Keith Wilson, at New Mexico State University. I was in graduate school at the time studying physics but with a minor in creative writing.

I have written a couple of subpages to this page.
