staking my claim (to being a poet)
4 haiku and a love poem
moon reflects in bowl
a night breeze stirs jasmine scents
my heart yearns for you
oh you danced, you danced!
the band played and pairs twirled
outside winter blew
here summer burns dry
where you live the snow still falls
I shiver and sweat
horses rear and neigh
now the battlefield grows cold
red the harvest moon
ah, sweet lady of my youth!
the years go by but you remain
we dated and we fell in love
we waited and we persevered
high school, college, marriage, kids
I stupidly ended the marriage
but we kept in communication
and now, oh now, look at us now!
maybe better friends than ever
and that same love, I think
still lights whatever is between
Connections
